THE
STORY:
Inspired
by a photograph taken by a friend I decided to try a gesso primed course canvas to see what effect it would have. Originally painted in 1994 I was inspired to add some symbolic interest to the play of the dolphins. I saw my ideas grow and take shape - I will leave the rest to your imagination. I hope the pleasure I get when I imagine the dolphins in the water is the same for you. The reason for adding the child in a Zorb Ball is to add to the child like wonder felt in stress free moments of play. To marvel at rainbows, the ocean, mammals, the sunlight and the freedom to play can become a forgotten dream in the stresses of modern living adulthood.
In a child's eyes the pleasure of the fantasy associated with the rainbows end must match the pleasure of seeing a dolphin playing in the wild. The untouchable, yet the delight of a free imagination to touch the wonder of creation in all its glory is a gift that can be easily lost in the humourless stresses of a fear driven mind. I have painted this in the hope that the pleasures imaged in the dolphins play will bring continuous joy to the viewer. I have swum, played, wind surfed and surfed with dolphins and it is a very special pleasure to which I owe a great hunk of gratitude to my maker for such an experience.
