Although
all works are treated with the best materials
currently available for reproduction and have a long life expectancy,
we still recommend they are not hung in direct sunlight or where
UV light is more likely to be a problem. A quality product is worth
looking after.
Ian
Anderson's open and limited edition prints are individually produced
on Epson Premier Art Satin Canvas and Premium Grade, Photo and Fine
Art Papers, (Possibly the highest quality reproduction materials
available in the world). The quality is exceptional with extremely
high contrast and an ultra high gloss true art appearance. It also
has great archival properties with a strong resistance to light
exposure using 8 colour Epson Ultra Chrome K3 Pigment Inks and Premier
Art Print Shield. With correct mounting and framing, Ian's works
will last for many years without any sign of UV damage.
Printed
in editions of 50, 100, 250 or 350, Ian's Limited Edition Canvas
Prints showcase fine art at it's best and unlike wine, shares or
other investments, they can be enjoyed while they mature. With correct
archival framing they last many years without any sign of UV damage,
allowing you the pleasure of viewing while the value increases.
When 25% of the total prints are sold in any one edition, the purchase
price increases by 20% ensuring that your investment also increases in
value. Once the last print in an edition has sold there will never
be another one produced. Although the limited edition print is no
longer produced, it remains in the online gallery with a simple
'Sold Out' label. When approached by prospective buyers, we contact
interested print owners and act as a broker if they wish to re-sell
their limited edition print. NOTE: Our guarantee for light fastness
is 70 years, (We are working on a system to replace any UV damaged
images after the 70 year period as an investment added value - all
buyers will be notified in due course of the introduction of this
protection clause to their investment).
In the case of limited edition prints from an original painting,
the value increases markedly more with the sale of the original
and any awards that maybe associated with it.
All limited edition works are titled, individually hand signed and
dated by Ian. They are rolled and packed into a hard cylinder tube
to guarantee safe delivery.

Giclée
Printing
The
Definition : Giclee (zhee-klay)
The French word "gicle" is a feminine noun that means
a spray or a spurt of liquid. The word may have been derived from
the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt".
The
Term : The term "giclee print"
connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated
from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality
inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base
paper. The giclee printing process provides better colour accuracy
than other means of reproduction.
The
Process : Giclee
prints are created typically using professional 8-Color to 12-Color
ink-jet printers. Among the manufacturers of these printers are
vanguards such as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard.
These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly
detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets.
Giclee prints are sometimes mistakenly referred to as Iris prints,
which are 4-Color ink-jet prints from a printer pioneered in the
late 1970s by Iris Graphics.
The
Advantages : Giclee prints are advantageous
to artists who do not find it feasible to mass produce their work,
but want to reproduce their art as needed, or on-demand. Once an
image is digitally archived, additional reproductions can be made
with minimal effort and reasonable cost. The prohibitive up-front
cost of mass production for an edition is eliminated. Archived files
will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently
do. Another tremendous advantage of giclee printing is that digital
images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media,
giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific
client.
The
Quality : The quality of the giclee print rivals
traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is
commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
The
Market : Numerous examples of giclee prints
can be found in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum
of Modern Art, and the Chelsea Galleries. Recent auctions of giclee
prints have fetched $10,800 for Annie Leibovitz, $9,600 for Chuck
Close, and $22,800 for Wolfgang Tillmans (April 23/24 2004, Photographs,
New York, Phillips de Pury & Company.)

Digital
Pigment Print
Definition :
The
term "pigment print" is used generally for any type of
printed image that uses strictly pigments. Pigment printing processes
have been utilized since the middle of the 19th century. The image
stability of pigment printing is superior to that of any other method
of printing, including traditional silver-halide or metal-based.
Digital
inkjet printing has seen a surge in the use of the pigment ink as
ink sets have been refined to be compatible with the latest in high-resolution
inkjet technology.
Where
archival dye-based ink sets exhibit excellent colour gamut, pigment
inks excel in permanence. A dye is molecularly soluble in its vehicle,
but pigment is not. Pigment particles tend to be large enough to
embed into the receiving substrate making them water-resistant.
The particulate nature of pigment inks ensures their archival superiority.
A particle of pigment is less susceptible to destructive environmental
elements than a dye molecule.
Many
digital papers have coatings which enhance colour gamut. However,
these delicate coatings are susceptible to scuffing and scratching,
and diminish the archival properties of the print. Prints made with
coated substrates are not considered true digital pigment prints.
Considering
the above factors, TeraJet defines a digital pigment print, sometimes
referred to as a pigmented paper print, as a digital image rendered
onto an uncoated, natural fiber substrate with pigment inks.

Masterworks:
(Remarqued or Artist Proofs)
Oil Paintings
Masterworks
(often referred to as A/P’s - Artist Proofs) are painting limited edition
Giclee's on canvas that has been, hand re-touched and textured
by replicating each original brush-stroke. Traditionally they are
hand re-worked with paints by the artist and an apprentice. This
highlights and accentuates the painting in certain areas; to match
the original painting. It is then finished with heavy bodied impasto
medium which also gives the painting a final protective coating
and the texture of an original oil painting. They are hand-finished
by the artist; personally signing and numbering each work by brush.
Artist’s
Proofs can be identified by a smaller edition number appearing along
with “A/P” (Artist’s Proof) next to the artist’s
signature. When compared to an original painting it is
nearly impossible to tell that an Artist’s Proof isn't the
original painting.
Photography Fine Art
Masterworks
(often referred to as A/P’s - Artist Proofs) are digitally limited edition
Giclee's on canvas that have been, digitally re-worked
by highlighting and enhancing the original worked file. This
highlights and accentuates the photograph in certain area to match
the original work plus more. It is then finished with heavy bodied impasto
medium which also gives the photo a final protective coating
and the texture of an original oil painting. They are hand-finished
by the artist, personally signing and numbering each work by brush.
Artist’s
Proofs can be identified by a smaller edition number appearing along
with “A/P” (Artist’s Proof) next to the artist’s
signature. When compared to an original photograph it is greatly enhanced.
